Ucluelet and Tofino Fishing Report
June 2009
The Salmon fishing is incredible up and down the West Coast of Vancouver Island! Ucluelet & Tofino fishing is fast and furious with the Chinooks (kings) averaging 12 to 25 pounds. The Halibut fishing is not as frantic but still productive if you put some time in.
We hope to see you on the water,if you are looking for a Salmon and Halibut excursion or for more updates please call Todd at 1 (250) 266 1614.
May 2009
Highroller Charters just completed an incredible weekend of reel- burning Salmon and mouth-watering Halibut fishing. We had both boats out approximately 20 miles off the West Coast of Vancouver Island 180 degrees due south out of Ucluelet harbor.
Fishing with us was the Julian Obodzi party, a group of 9 keen anglers. The party had amazing weather and even better fishing. Chinook (King Salmon) were abundant and feeding aggressively on Needle-fish. Halibut fishing was a bit more of a struggle but we managed to limit out the whole group. Totals for the weekend were as follows:
- 36 - Chinook Salmon with the largest being a chrome bright 30 pound Tyee!
- 4 - Hatchery(fin clipped)Coho Salmon
- 10 - Halibut,the largest of which was a 48 pound hog
Many whale sightings including Humpback and Orca Whales also high-lighted the trip.
In summary, the fishing in Ucluelet is the best I have seen in many years for the month of May. Fisheries predictions of fantastic fishing all over the West Coast of Vancouver Island for Salmon are already proving correct. June should only get better as the Salmon and Halibut are feeding, getting bigger, and more plentiful every day. If a fishing trip to the West-Coast of Vancouver Island is in your plans make sure to phone Highroller Charters and let us arrange a fishing excursion you won't soon forget.
Ucluelet and Tofino BC Fishing Report - 2008 recap
The Salmon and Halibut fishing off the coast of Vancouver Island, particularly Ucluelet and Tofino was excellent once again. British Columbia Fisheries Department predicted the Chinook(King)Salmon would be smaller this year and they were correct. Despite the Salmon being smaller, Highroller Charter clients were treated to fast and furious action as there were large concentrations of 12 to 25 pound feeder Chinooks on the banks of Ucluelet all summer. All this leads to a very promising 2009 season for wild B.C. Salmon fishing. Halibut fishing continues to get better each year with limits of (chicken's) ranging from 15 to 45 pounds caught daily. The West-Coast of Vancouver Island may not hold many barn door size Halibut but if it's coolers full of the best eating bottom fish you are looking for, Ucluelet is where you want to be.
Not only does British Columbia offer some of the finest Salmon and Halibut fishing anywhere in the world, but also many other attractions as well. These include Whales, Sea lions, Eagles and many other sea creatures. The Humpback whale is a common visitor to the Ucluelet area as they pass by Vancouver Island shores on their way to Alaska in the Spring and return to California and Hawaii in the late stages of Summer.
Highroller Charters specializes in Saltwater fishing charter excursions catering to all skills of anglers, men, women and children. We are currently investigating the opportunity of some fresh water fishing as well for Steelhead, Coho(silvers) and Chinooks in the plentiful rivers on Vancouver Island.
We here at Highroller charters would like to thank all our clients and friends who ventured to Ucluelet to sample what BC fishing has to offer and look forward to seeing all of you again in 2009!
Look forward to fishing with you !
